TOURNAMENT REPORT - WIGMORE YOUTH FC 30.05.10.

We returned as current champions in our age group to this tournament and despite some very good opposition, better than last year I’m led to believe, we came away as champions again!!
Two years on the bounce, can we go back for a third year and claim a hat-trick of tournament wins, lets wait and see!!

I’m obviously writing this report on the thoughts & comments of both Phil & Mark who took charge of the team for the day but what they have told me mirrors what we achieved last year.
We played as a team from front to back and were solid in all areas no matter who it was who was on the pitch, which shows the strength in all positions that we have as a team and which again helped us to be worthy winners.
We strolled through the league stages winning five and losing only once, thanks Brandon! and in doing so gaining 15 points, scoring 11 and conceding only 1 (thanks again Brandon!) along the way.
The semi final was a close fought game against Ashford Borough with us leading 1-0 up until the final seconds when we conceded, but we held our nerve and got through on the penalty shoot out to put us in to the final.
The final was again a very close hard fought match against Bridon Ropes from the Kent League, so a top quality side, and again we were leading 1-0 until the final minute when unfortunately we conceded to take it to penalties. Despite some gamesmanship from our opponents we remained focused and thanks to some excellent saves by Matt, and well taken penalties (Ted, Shaun, George & Tyler) we triumphed 4-1.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
