Undefeated League Champions dominate third division!
The U10 boys travelled to Folkestone knowing they had already won their league so it was no surprise they started slowly.
The First half saw Liam and Sam being called upon frequently in defence from the early Folkestone surge. Luke and Thomas both had early efforts at goal but to no avail. Danny stood in as goalkeeper to good effect. A spectacular Folkestone corner saw a hard header through to the net after ten minutes. There was nothing that could be done against a corner of that quality. Minutes later Phillip made a run past a few down the wing and sent a beautiful pass to Thomas who controlled the ball well, setting up the shot with his first touch and then slotting past the helpless keeper. Eagles battled well with a determined Folkestone side for the rest of the half.
Eagles started the second stronger and began to settle into their usual slick passing brand of the game. Luke hit the post, narrowly missed and had an effort saved in quick succession. There was some delightful team football being played from all, one notable moment was a one-two between Fraser and Thomas which ended up parried out for a corner. Sam and Liam began to press the defensive line forward to fill the gap between the attackers and defence, forcing Folkestone back who in turn broke in numbers. Luke, Thomas, Fraser and Phillip seemed to get the bit between their teeth as they stretched the opposition. Phillip pushed down the wing time and time again as Thomas relentlessly chased the ball down and dominated the centre of midfield. Fraser won the ball coming in from the left and smashed it past the bewildered keeper from well outside the penalty area making it 1-2. Another Fraser effort followed immediately from a slightly closer position but went wide. Luke swapped with Danny as stand in goalkeeper. Danny made his presence on pitch felt immediately but got caught in the face with a clearance attempt. An inspired Oli rescued the day when he headed clear from the line at the back post as Folkestone pushed to level. Jordan was introduced again and he almost got his first goal with a determined close range attempt only to be saved by a brave goalkeeper. A slick pass from Danny to Fraser gave him the stage to leave his marker on his backside with a step-over. He sent it across to Phillip who deservedly tapped it in the net to seal the day 1-3. Philip and Thomas both went close in the final stages as Folkestone faded under Eagles fire.
